Kendrick Lamar Reportedly Forced to Alter “Not Like Us” Lyric for Super Bowl Halftime Show

Kendrick Lamar’s explosive performance of “Not Like Us” during the Super Bowl LIX halftime show had fans buzzing—but one thing was noticeably missing: the controversial lyric,

“Certified Lover Boy? Certified pedophile.”

According to recent reports and legal filings, the NFL would not allow Kendrick to perform the song with that particular line unless the word “pedophile” was removed.

The decision reportedly came after legal pressure from Drake’s team, who claim the lyric is defamatory and dangerous.

In an ongoing lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG), Drake’s attorneys allege that the NFL, along with corporate broadcast partners, understood that labeling someone a “certified pedophile” on national television would be both defamatory and unacceptable.

As a result, the Super Bowl version of the song was altered to exclude the word entirely, although the rest of the track remained intact.

Still, Kendrick didn’t hold back during the performance.

He kept other biting bars aimed at Drake intact, including the pointed,

“Say, Drake, I hear you like ’em young / You better not ever go to cell block one.”

The crowd at Caesars Superdome echoed every word, turning the moment into one of the most talked-about halftime performances in recent history.

This situation is the latest twist in a still-unfolding rap feud that has spilled far beyond music into legal and corporate territory.

Kendrick’s camp has not commented on the lyric change, but the omission underscores the increasing stakes in the battle between two of hip-hop’s biggest artists.

UMG has filed a motion to dismiss Drake’s lawsuit, claiming the lyrics fall under free speech and artistic expression, characterizing the suit as a misguided reaction to “losing a rap battle.”
