Doritos Fans Question Why Company Wants To Get Rid Of Iconic Triangle Shape

There aren’t many snacks out there known more for their shape than their taste, but Doritos may be one of them.
And that may be about to change.
A post from a Doritos UK Instagram account over the weekend has fans of the iconic chip brand suspicious of what’s to come.
The post, featuring a square-shaped chip, contains the caption, “The shape of things to come”.
Commenters on the post, in large part, weren’t impressed.
One user said, “Just bring back line flavour. I can’t believe you were so short sighted to discontinue the best flavour.”
Another remarked, “Don’t mess up with my triangle! ”.
The Doritos brand has been around since 1964. Over the years they’ve compiled over 100 different flavors, with their mainstays being Nacho Cheese and Cool (later Cooler) Ranch.
Some of the brand’s more obscure flavors include Almond Cheese, Clam Chowder and Black Garlic.
It’s worth noting that Doritos themselves haven’t released a statement or even commented on this Instagram post. We also aren’t sure if the updated shape would just pertain to the UK versions, or if we’d be seeing square Doritos here in the United States.
For the record, the name “Doritos” comes from the Spanish word doradito, which is a form of dorado. Dorado means “little fried and golden thing”.
I think we’d also agree that dorado could be another way to say “delicious”.
What’s your favorite chip to snack on? Would you stop buying Doritos if they changed their iconic triangle shape?
