On “R&B Divas: Atlanta,” LaTavia Roberson seems reluctant to perform, but the singer said she’d do just that if she were invited to be apart of a Destiny’s Child tour.
“The sky is the limit and I am open to anything,” LaTavia told Raw-Hollywood.com.
Though some assume LaTavia has a strained relationship with her former group members, she said she has no hard feelings about her dismissal from Destiny’s Child and is proud of all of the women.
“Something that is definitely misconceived about me is that I’m bitter about the way that things went down. Me being apart of such a big entity is one of the best things that has ever happened in my whole entire life,” she said. “What people do not know is that sometimes I’m in my room when I’m at home with my mother visiting in Houston is, ‘Girl, if you play another Beyoncé song. Stop putting it on repeat…’ I support the ladies so much. It means a lot to me…I’m so glad to know that everybody has been able to have [her] own success… I think that it’s phenomenal. I think that it’s great.”
LaTavia said that what may come across to viewers as a fear of returning to singing is actually her wanting to make sure things are done right.
“People think that I’m afraid to sing. No, it’s not that I’m afraid to sing. My fear is coming and having to do something so quick and it not being right. My manager and business partner, we focus very, very, very hard on trying to make sure that the brand remains what the brand needs to be. We can’t half step. We can’t be mediocre about anything. Everything needs to definitely be right,” explained LaTavia who admitted that she doesn’t necessarily want to continue singing. However, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t want to be an R&B diva.

“I have two Grammys and one of them is for me writing on ‘Say My Name.’ I would love to be behind the scenes. I would love to develop talent… There’s a strong side of me that would love to just work on the entrepreneurial side of me being a mogul type of woman in this industry,” said LaTavia.
Like many other ‘80s and ‘90s artists, LaTavia said she also has to learn how to succeed in an industry that has seen a lot of changes since she first came on the scene.
“You can throw on a pair of underwear and some heels and fishnets and overnight you’re a star. I just came from a different era, so it does make me put up my guard as far as what my limits will be as far as me getting into the industry,” she said.
LaTavia recently shared with fans that she was molested as a child and struggled with alcoholism in later years. She’s dealt with a lot of her demons, but it’s little wonder she’s cautious about what’s next. The new mother said she has to make sure that she’s doing what is best for her and her family and that may mean taking things slow.
“There have been a lot of ups and downs in my life and I’m on a journey right now, finding my way back to which way I want to be in the music industry. There are a lot things about the music industry that kind of left a bad taste in my mouth,” she said. “I’ve not been in the spotlight and on the stage for over a decade now. So, I can’t just jump head first into something that would be that detrimental to my career. It’s not going to happen.”
