The world of Hip Hop suffered a tragic loss today when Sylvia Robinson “The Mother Of Hip Hop” passed away at the age of 75 from congestive heart failure. Sylvia founded the record label Sugar Hill Records and is credited as “the driving force behind two landmark singles in the genre. The first was ‘Rapper’s Delight’ by theĀ Sugarhill Gang, which was the first rap song to be released by a hip hop act.Ā The second was ‘The Message’ by Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five.”
